Boston University is now offering two distinct and highly prestigious programs in an e-Learning format — the Master of Science in Business Continuity and Emergency Management (MSBCEM) and a Graduate Certificate in Emergency Management and Organizational Continuity (EMOC). Today's working professionals need to be able to customize their education, and Boston University has taken advantage of the flexibility and accessibility of online learning to create these two programs.

MSBCEM and EMOC have been created by a faculty of leaders who have hands-on experience in the field of disaster management and business continuity both in the public and private sector. These online programs are comprehensive and prepare the graduates to thoroughly facilitate business continuity and emergency management initiatives in the following areas:

a. Public services — to coordinate disaster response or crisis management activities; provide disaster preparedness training, and prepare emergency plans and procedures for natural wartime, or technological disasters or hostage situations.

b. Private sector — to evaluate risks and control; analyze impact on business; identify local, state and federal requirements; develop recovery strategies for multiple computer platforms, networks, operating systems and/or applications; utilize contingency planning software tools and business continuity methodology in addition to interfacing with senior management.

c. Human Factors — to facilitate an understanding of social and emotional reactions to potential crises.

Business continuity and emergency management is an extremely demanding and evolving field that requires very intensive and high-level education. These programs combined with job experience will provide higher visibility in the industry and greater career opportunities in the field of Business/Organizational Continuity and Emergency Management.
